DrumFish! Drum Circle

Our drum circle has no official leaders or group facilitators. What we do have are a wide array of drummers, skills and styles- from accomplished musicians to complete novices. 

Don't worry, even if you think you're rhythmically challenged.  Once you begin you'll find rhythms inside of you, you never knew you had.  All you need to do is participate and the rhythms and energy of the drum circle will pull out of you exactly what you need to fully contribute to the group.

Skill level is much less important than how much of yourself you contribute to the experience.  If every player is here to share their spirit and have fun, the musical part of the drum circle will take care of itself.  We also encourage non percussive instruments at our circle.  On many nights we have the added benefit of flutes, didgeredoo, trumpet, clarinet, harp and other instruments weaving in and out of the groove.  Participants often add their voices in chant and song and poetry with the drums.  Dancers are not only welcome but encouraged!

It is NOT necessary to own a drum to drum with us. There are always extra drums available to share on any drum night.

"We all have an innate knowledge of the pulse of life and the rhythm of the planet. When we come together to drum, we communicate with each other in this most basic language. Our tribal memories allow us to understand, on the deepest levels, that the whole is greater than the individual parts and those of us who drum know that there is only one thing better than sitting alone under a tree and beating out the rhythms of our souls, and that is to join with others in the same exact meditation. We all know it. There is but one song; the song of Life; and our collective rhythm beaten together is the ultimate expression of our human connection.

Although the focus or intent differs from culture to culture, rhythmic drumming invariably has the same power and effects in all traditions. The resonant qualities and attributes of these rhythmic phenomena are universal and come into play whenever we drum."
